Laredo is a bay 6 year old, 16.3 hand, Percheron cross gelding. This gentleman is hands down one of the nicest we’ve had all year! He is put together correctly with the right brain to match. He is drop dead gorgeous, and very versatile. This boy is talented and under saddle and harness. Laredo has the best ‘in your pocket’ personality. He is quiet and confident in himself when doing his job. Most importantly he is a safe trustworthy horse. You can count on Laredo to be the same horse every time you pull him out whether it’s a few times a week or once a month. He does not have a mean bone in his body as he likes to please his people. This angel is a rare find, with the brain and personality everyone is looking for.
On the trails, Laredo is an absolute machine. You can take him through anything, over anything, around anything; The whole time he’ll have his ears perked forward having fun. He’s been on many miles of trails and all different terrains. You can trust him to canter out in the open fields, walk through the creek and into the river, hop over logs and small fences, pass the boats, bikers, dogs, tarps, deer, any type of vehicle, go up and down steep hills, and just about anything else you can imagine. He is one you can enjoy riding out without having a care in the world. Laredo is guaranteed to have a level, easygoing, fun temperament the whole time. You can ride him on the buckle, ride him backwards, have a beer, goof around, and he’ll continue to plod along down the trail. He is careful, and as sensible, sane, and sound as they come.
In the ring, Laredo learns quickly and could truly go any direction. He is more forward thinking in the ring and enjoys his job. He is very familiar with both Western and English tack. The gelding has been schooling some low level dressage, and he is learning to be adjustable, go on the bit, and move off leg. He has been practicing turning on the forehand, turning on his haunches, sidepassing, and doing lots of transitions. He is absolutely brilliant and one of the fastest learners we’ve had. Although Laredo is still green in the ring, bucking, spooking, rearing, and kicking is not something this horse has ever had cross his mind. He is happy to work and so eager to please. Laredo has done lunge line and leadline lessons with the kids and behaved like a perfect gentleman. He has been lightly started over jumps in the ring as well as cross country jumps. Although he is a big boy, he is more athletic than you’d expect. He has free jumped up to 3’3 with scope for more. There’s not much he can’t do!
Under harness, Laredo is the ‘go to guy’ to pull out for a fun drive. Similar to how he is on the trail, you can sit back and relax, and he will take care of the rest. He has been hitched single, double, and to different farm machinery. He’s even pulled a produce cart to the local market! This sweet boy is responsive, safe, and reliable. Hitch him up, and drive him down the busy road with tractor trailers coming by. He won’t blink an eye. He listens to voice signals very well and understands his job in and out. He’s 100% traffic safe, and he will stand to harness, hitch, and unhitch. His video speaks for itself. Laredo is a unicorn in more ways than one and not the type you come by every day.
In the barn Laredo has definitely made himself known as a favorite. He always greets you with his ears forward asking for love and attention. He comes right up in the field and wants to be everyone’s best friend. He will literally put his head in your arms to be cuddled. He is the biggest baby! This puppy dog will stand still as a statue to groom, clip, and tack up, even with dogs running around his legs. He puts his head down to take the bit and expects scratches in return. He is a very well behaved horse for the vet, farrier, and dentist. He has no bad stall or turnout habits. He loads right up into the trailer and has been trailered off property many times. He loves going out on an adventure, and he is always the same solid guy no matter what. We aren’t sure how we got so lucky with this guy as he truly is a once in a lifetime horse.
