Er ist fünfgängig veranlagt und verfügt über viel Tölt, einen schönen schwungvollen Trab und gemütlichen Galopp. Bylur ist bei eher ruhigem Temperament super unkompliziert und einfach zu reiten. In neuen Situationen (z.B. ein neuer gefällter Baum) braucht er allerdings manchmal die Sicherheit seines Reiters, der ihn dran vorbei begleitet. Ansonsten ist er aber sicher und zuverlässig unterwegs und man kann auf ihm so ziemlich alles machen, was man möchte. Er ist ein toller Freizeitpartner, der aufgrund seiner kräftigen Statur auch größere Reiter gut abdeckt. Auf Island war er das Lieblings-Männer-Ausreitpferd der Familie.
